I had an incredible opportunity to visit Hell's Gate Geothermal Reserve, also known as Tikitere, in Rotorua, New Zealand. To witness the raw power of geothermal activity firsthand, was an unforgettable and truly unique experience.

In the foreground, there is a pool of steaming sulfur water, surrounded by rocks and steam rising from the surface. In the background, there are bubbling mud pools and geysers shooting up from the ground. The landscape is barren, with rocks and mud surrounding the geothermal features. The atmosphere is eerie and otherworldly, with the steam and sulfur adding to the overall atmosphere.

As soon as you arrive, you're greeted by the pungent smell of sulfur and the eerie sight of steam rising from the ground. It is spectacular, the landscape is barren and otherworldly, with bubbling mud pools and geysers shooting up from the Earth.

As you walk through the reserve, you'll come across pools of steaming water surrounded with bright yellow sulfur.

I planned ahead and was excited to wear my Sparkle Style Co. Sulfur leggings for this amazing adventure. I fit right into the landscape with the beautiful yellow crystals.  I have seen and photographed sulfur specimens from various gem and mineral shows, but to see it living and growing in different formations at the reserve was incredible.

Here is a little bit of background on Sulfur.  It is a mineral created naturally by volcanic activity and is fascinating due to its bright yellow color and unique crystal formations. It can be found in many parts of the world and is abundant in the Earth's crust. The color of sulfur crystals comes from the way they absorb and reflect light and it can appear in other colors. It has a distinctive odor that smells like "rotten eggs" due to the presence of hydrogen sulfide gas.

Sulfur is believed to have many metaphysical and healing properties. It is associated with the element of fire and said to have a stimulating and energizing effect. It can help increase vitality and creativity, and promote spiritual growth and transformation by removing negative energy and blockages. The name "sulfur" comes from the Latin word "sulphur," which means "to burn." It is also known as "brimstone," an old-fashioned term for sulfur, which means "burning stone." Sulfur has been used for centuries in traditional medicine and spiritual practices due to its detoxifying and purifying properties. It may be used to treat various health issues such as skin conditions, respiratory problems, and joint pain. Additionally, sulfur can be used in shamanic journeys or spiritual rituals to connect with higher realms and facilitate communication with spirits or guides.
